I heard Wayne Angell, ex-Fed governer on C-Span talk about the effect of asian bankers needing some quick cash to deal with their currency issues which represents be a more benign explanation.

Unless the market deflates big time, we should have a slow recovery of IDTI and others back to their 1997 average prices before mid year. If the Fed lowers (>50% chance IMO), the fears will be temporarily extinguished for a good 98 into 99.

I'm invested hoping for a reasonable upturn.

Lehman is generally good though I don't quite get the late announcement.
