Yeah, I've followed the tricorder project for some time. I agree that to start with the technology will be pitched as an "assistant" for Docs, not a replacement. But like I say, in Radiology it will shortly be the case that the AI system is better than the Radiologist, so why pay them to sign off on the diagnosis?

The big issue with legal is that you can't bankrupt an individual Doc, but you can a corporation making a piece of equipment. That will need to change, and sure the medical providers will fight tooth and nail. My solution is that the law should allow consumers to vote with their $ and take "risk" as they desire. Healthcare providers can try charging an arm and a leg and claim they have lower risk, and I'll visit the AI kiosk at Walmart and use the AI doc for $20 a visit.
