Further diamond counts from Crown diamond mine, South Africa Rupert Resources Ltd RUP Shares issued 7,218,362 Jan 22 close $3.05 Fri 23 Jan 98 News Release Mr D. Neil Briggs reports Further diamond counts from drillhole Crown-1 at the Crown diamond mine project in South Africa. These excellent results, from hypabyssal kimberlite in the interval from 771.0m to 898.7m downhole, are detailed below. The hypabyssal kimberlite from 713.5m to 771.0m in drillhole Crown-1 has been previously reported. Taken together these results represent a core length of 185.2m of hypabyssal kimberlite containing 84 macros (22%) out of 387 total diamonds and 311 white transparent diamonds (81%) out of the 387 total diamonds in the 269.03kg sample. The hole intersected a total of 221.0m of hypabyssal kimberlite in two sections, the first from 647.0m to 667.0m and the second from 713.5m to 905.0m separated by 46.5m of shale-rich kimberlite breccia. The interval from 647.0m to 905.0m represents a horizontal width of 129m and a vertical extent of 223.4m. Core drillhole Crown-2 entered tufficitic kimberlite breccia (TKB) at a depth of 333.3m downhole and continued in TKB for a length of 30.7m. This intersection corresponds to the kimberlite intersected in the 330m level haulage tunnel. The hole then continued in the Bulge, a complex, highly fractured zone of lava, shale, shale-rich kimberlite breccia and kimberlite to the end of the hole at 431.5m. Core drillhole Crown-3 is drilling through the Main Pipe and will test the downward continuation of the Bulge. Core drillhole Crown-4 is testing the Satellite Pipe which is just west of the Main Pipe. Samples, estimated to be 20kg to 25kg each, of split drillcore were placed in buckets at the drillsite, sealed, taken to Johannesburg, shipped air freight to Toronto and forwarded to Lakefield Research in Lakefield, Ontario. Lakefield Research carried out its standard method of diamond recovery by caustic dissolution followed by microscopic examination and measuring of the recovered diamonds. Extensive internal quality control procedures are followed by Lakefield. Petrographic examinations and mineral chemistry studies will be performed on portions of the retained drillcore. The balance of the drillcore will be retained on site for future reference and check analyses as necessary. (c) Copyright 1998 Canjex Publishing Ltd. canada-stockwatch.com
