the Republicans have become Democrats Robert Heilbroner was one of the varmints who misled too many Americans over a couple of generations. He sold texts by the buttload. When the Soviet Union collapsed he repented, admitted in a NEW YORKER article that his side had been wrong all along, the other side right. He specifically mentioned von Mises and his arguments about the impossibility of calculation under statist regimes. Then Fukuyama wrote about THE END OF HISTORY, where free market capitalism had conclusively proven its moral superiority. FORBES introduced another audience to the likes of Hayek and Milton Friedman remained predominant. The informed heaved a sigh of relief, thought the big matters settled. It was not to be. The evil left is back in force, erasing once again the lessons of history. Ken Burns recently ran a hagiography on both Roosevelts that totally ignored the evidence that later economic epidemiologists uncovered about their corrosive effects. PBS just had another special claiming that Rock and Roll is what brought down the Soviet Union. I've seen nothing in popular media connecting the policies of our left to occurrences in Venezuela. I've long doubted the possibility of grand conspiracies. That faith is being shaken.
