Couple of other things about that "study"... the authors are a who's-who of climate change deniers...

Also, the original GISTEMP study in 1981 had the base period being from 1880 to 1980 (i.e. the mean taken out of the data), subsequent studies used a base period from 1951 to 1980. So, the 1980 GISTEMP trend is shifted up by about 0.2 C relative to the others. It then looks like the trend is steeper in the more recent trends.

Some of the trends use 5 year averages vs. annual averages. The data is noisy and some cold/warm spikes may be averaged out in the 5 year averages.
