I have Mint 17.3(Rosa) on my 32 bit HP laptop with only 2gb Ram and it runs extremely well.
On my self built desktop with 8gb Ram I run Ubuntu 16.04 with a Zorin interface. Also runs very well.
I have both set up to mimic Windows 7. Seldom do anything of importance on Win 10 but keep it up-to-date.
I find Linux to be free, elegant, well supported long term.
Any programming I do(very basic) in c, c++, python works well on Windows or Linux, however, my Visual Studio and JustBasic I leave on Win 10.
