John Laing Scoops Up Major Stake In NRG Texas Wind Farm

Posted by Betsy Lillian on July 11, 2017

U.K.-based John Laing Group PLC, an international originator, investor and manager of infrastructure projects, is acquiring a 90.5% shareholding interest in the Buckthorn Wind Power Project in partnership with NRG Energy Inc., the developer and future operator of the wind farm.

Located in Erath County, Texas, the facility represents John Laing’s first renewables investment in Texas, as well as its second wind investment in the U.S.

Construction financing and tax equity are being provided by RBC Capital Markets. The project, expected to become operational in the fourth quarter, will benefit from corporate off-take agreements for up to 20 years, John Laing notes.

Installed capacity for the Buckthorn Wind Power Project will total 100.5 MW from 26 Vestas V126-3.45 MW turbines, each with an 87-meter hub height, and three Vestas V117-3.6 MW turbines, each with a 91.5-meter hub height.
