Hi goldworldnet, I thought your technophile readers might find this useful and/or informative: I’m getting quite sick of my ISP's spotty service (a nameless major US cable company - with the lowest consumer rating in the US), frequent outages and their horrible, horrible customer support. There are only two wired ISP options where I live, the cable company and the phone company. But as terrible as the cable company is, the phone company is an even bigger rip-off for their DSL Internet service, offering far lower speeds and also subject to frequent outages. So, here's what I've decided to do. I’m setting up an automatic 4G LTE backup to my cable modem in our home. And unbelievably, aside from an up front investment of $272, it will cost me only $6/month incrementally to do this. Here’s what I’ve ordered to accomplish this: Netgear LTE modem: $139.99 amazon.com Netgear Cell booster antenna for the above: $27.49 (this is optional but it gets you a full extra bar on your signal in most cases). amazon.com Load balancing failover UTT router (up to 4 WAN ports, plus VPN, WIFI, USB file sharing): $94.90 amazon.com Ting SIM: $10 I’ll plug the cable modem and the Netgear LTE modem into two WAN ports on the UTT router, which will handle the failover (or balancing, if desired). The LTE modem is compatible with many providers including ATT, T-Mobile and our provider, Ting. Adding an additional device on Ting costs only $6 / month. So, aside from the up-front investment of $272, it will incrementally cost me only $6 / month to have superfast 4G LTE backup with load balancing and automatic failover and so to hopefully never go offline. Ting charges only for what data you use and maxes out at $10/GB. Switching your cell phones over to Ting from AT&T will save you 50-75% on your household bill. We have 5 cell phones on Ting in our house, and our average monthly bill is $63.39. We had 3 lines on AT&T before and were paying $140+. Ting uses the T-Mobile network. I don't work for Ting, and I'm sorry if this sounds like an advertisement for them, but I cannot say enough good things about this cellular service company with a national footprint matching T-Mobile. Been using them for over six months now. The fact that the UTT router also has WIFI and VPN is just icing on the cake. I’ll let you know how it goes... Regards, @Dima
