Nope

That includes the cells, wiring, some electronics and the container which weighs close to 200 lbs itself and is a critical structural element of the car.

Eric just likes to count the weight of the lithium component of the battery, not the whole kit and caboodle including the cables and structural elements required to stop it falling onto the road: <<
900 lbs of cells WHAT?

Tesla's have a 1200 lb battery. That's a fact.

Battery weight:

1200 lb/544 kg (85 kWh)

He also thinks that because a BMW 7 car is the same weight as a Tesla, that means the Tesla is good to go.

But a Tesla with a 100 kg battery would be 500 kg lighter and 500 kg is a LOT of weight to save in a car. It's also a lot of cost to cut when shopping for a car. It would mean more distance per joule too so lower operating cost.

Eric compares a bad car with a less bad car. In competition though, customers compare cars with all options, not just a particularly bad car. Sure, the Tesla might be the same weight as a BMW7 but if the Tesla weighs half a ton more than another option, without losing anything on functionality, and even GAINING rapid recharge [7 seconds instead of half an hour] with cheaper electricity and no queuing to get to the recharge point .... it's an easy choice.
