The post was an answer to the points raised about Kansas (and not my first answer).

California experienced bouce back from a number of bad years. Looking at states overall. Rather than just two states at two particular times. The states with no state income taxes have tended to grow faster than the norm, and the states with high state income taxes slower. (That despite the fact that stronger economic fundamentals allows you to get away with tax increases and/or high taxes to a greater extent than if the economy wasn't so sound.)
