Yes, Carol, what you just said dovetails with what I was trying to express, subtly. While I totally understand that there are concerns with some of the medications available to help someone break their smoking addiction, and side effects for some users of these drugs, certainly overall the benefits outweigh the problems, and I think in this debate the fact that tobacco is the real enemy has been overlooked to some extent, possibly because since smokers are now so outnumbered, in America at least, that they are circling the wagons.

I just wanted the big picture to be looked at, as well. The most important thing to do is to continue to try to quit smoking, for most people, and of course your doctor may be very helpful in that, and it is important to discuss with him/her your plans, and get some medical guidance and supervision during your struggle. Having said that, for the preponderance of the population, the patch, which is an over-the-counter medication now because it has been determined that the benefits far outweigh the risks, can be useful in some cases.

What I don't want to do is die a smoker's death, revulsed and hating myself for my own early and hideously gross and painful demise. So I really try remind myself of the facts about smoking and smokers, and stay away from tobacco!!!
