Trey Gowdy: Jeff Sessions works for "a blindfolded woman holding a set of scales," not the president t.co

[ Interesting .... all the big name Trump supporters are siding with Sessions. Rudy, Tucker Carlson, Newt, Gowdy, Mark Levin, ... almost NOBODY is backing Trump over Sessions. Does it matter? I don't think so. Trump supporters are owned and have no sway with The Corrupter. ]

"I would not stay if my employer had lost confidence in me, but on the other hand, Attorney General Sessions may believe he is doing the job the way he's supposed to. He doesn't work for the President; he works for a blindfolded woman holding a set of scales," Rep. Trey Gowdy said in a Fox News interview. (AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta)

Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., said on Tuesday that Attorney General Jeff Sessions works for "a blindfolded woman holding a set of scales," not President Trump.

"I would not stay if my employer had lost confidence in me, but on the other hand, Attorney General Sessions may believe he is doing the job the way he's supposed to. He doesn't work for the President; he works for a blindfolded woman holding a set of scales," Gowdy said in an interview with Bret Baier on Fox News, referring to Lady Justice. "So, he's gotta make that call."

Trump has recently been publicly critical of Sessions. In a tweet, he said that Sessions is "beleaguered" and stated in an interview with the New York Times that he would not have hired Sessions if he knew Sessions would recuse himself from the Russian investigation.

"It's a very difficult circumstance and again, I view that job differently than I do secretary of commerce or secretary of agriculture," Gowdy said. "It is heartbreaking to me as a former DOJ employee to see public squabbling between the commander in chief and the nation's top law enforcement officer," Gowdy said.

Trump has not fired Sessions or officially asked for his resignation. Despite Trump's criticism, Sessions has indicated that he plans to stay on as leader of the Department of Justice
