I don't know how the word exclusive is applied. I would doubt that WCOM would give anyone an exclusive. The backbone is too valuable to award exclusive rights to anyone. I do see some strong partnering for services though. Think of the value added to the hardware that FTEL is selling when you can tie into a nationwide network of IP telephony through FTEL/FNET. Corporations will find it very attractive.
Ask yourself, why did Deutsch Telcom buy the equipment to provide IP telephony services when they could have just as easily made their facilities available to other providers. There's more money to be made in the service side and it is a continual revenue stream. FTEL knows this and so does WCOM. I would love to see the details of FTELs agreement with WCOM.
