IMHO: It sounds rather theoretical at this point and of zero threat in next ten or fifteen years to hdd market. His patent for molding nano-sized structures appears interesting but far from practical application. It may not be as futuristic as Nanotechnology devices built by Nanobots at zero cost, but it sounds close enough not to worry me.

Nanotechnology in general is fascinating area of science bordering on and sometimes intermingled with sci-fi. What he is proposing reminds me of the fifties predictions that every garage would hold a family aero-car by the mid-sixties. The real threat to Detroit came from cars built with quality in Japan which would have seemed more ludicrous than aero-cars back then.
