You probably think you're saying something profound and physicy.

When solar radiation gets to the earth it first passes through the atmosphere. After it reaches the surface of the earth, 71% of that surface is ocean.

What else is there? Well, there's land. Most of which is covered by plants, though some is bare dirt, rock, sand.

So, whatever heat is retained on earth is going to be mostly in the atmosphere and oceans. But is there some massive runup in retained heat on earth? No.
