NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A woman was charged Thursday with facilitating an armed robbery that resulted in the 72-year-old victim shooting and killing one of the gunmen.

Metro police said during an interview with Molena Holt, she said she owed Randall Caradine and another man $30 for a drug debt.

The 26-year-old reportedly admitted to calling the elderly victim and asking him to drive her to Springfield. When the victim agreed, Holt allegedly asked him to stop at the Madison Manor Apartments on Old Hickory Boulevard so she could pick up some clothes.

According to a press release, when Holt walked behind a building, Caradine and another man allegedly approached the victim and demanded money at gunpoint before punching the elderly man in the neck and taking his wallet.

The victim then retrieved a handgun from his pocket and fired, striking 46-year-old Caradine.

The second unidentified suspect reportedly then drove Caradine to a repair shop down the street on Old Hickory Boulevard East so he could call 911. The driver pulled Caradine from the car and left him behind, police said.

Caradine was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center where he died.

Holt, who has previous convictions for drug possession and prostitution, is jailed in lieu of $100,000.

No charges have been filed against the victim. The investigation continues.

Woman shoots at prowler in midtown after hammer thrown at resident

By Harrison Grimwood Tulsa World Jul 25, 2017 4

A woman shot at a prowler who reportedly broke a window of her home and threw a hammer at her Monday night, police said.

The intruder, identified only as a black female, was confronted about 11:30 p.m. at a home in the 6900 block of East 18th Street, Sgt. Stephen Florea said.

The home's occupant told police she was sitting on her bed when the window was broken. She retrieved a handgun and fired one shot out the window toward the prowler, scaring her off, Florea said.

Two women reportedly had approached the resident earlier in the evening looking for her daughter. They threatened to harm the daughter and return and "tear up her house," Florea stated in a news release.

Police have not yet been able to identify the prowler. However, officers suspect the incident is related to a protective order against the ex-boyfriend of the resident's daughter.

Officers took the hammer as evidence and hope to find fingerprints on it, Florea said.

Medics treated the resident for a minor cut from the broken glass.

Anyone with information may contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 918-596-COPS (2677), online at p3tips.com/918 or through the Tulsa Tips app, which can be downloaded from the Google Play or iTunes stores.

Young Ohio Father Defends His Family, Shoot Two Home Intruders

Posted at 11:54 am on July 27, 2017 by Jenn Jacques

Gary Gross, his girlfriend, and their 14-month-old son were asleep in their Kenoak Lane home in Columbia Township, OH when the unthinkable happened – criminals targeted their quiet home.

Early Saturday morning, at approximately 3:15 a.m., the young father awoke to the sound of intruders entering his home. 24-year-old Gross said he grabbed a hammer to defend himself with and confronted the two home intruders he’d never seen before.

“The only thing going through my mind is if they do something to me there’s nobody … to protect my wife and my son,” Gross said. “You have to do what you got to do. You have to make sure that these guys do not make it to that back room. Your son is back there. If anything happens to you, he’s defenseless, she’s defenseless.”

Gross said after a brief struggle with the men, he ran outside to grab a gun from his car and ran back into the house where he shot both men.
The suspects then fled the scene in their vehicle.

“They picked the wrong day to do something like that,” Gary Gross told WKRC. “I don’t want to kill anybody, so hopefully they’ll be okay and they’ll learn a lesson.”

The suspects were tracked down by authorities in Cincinnati and were transported to University Hospital to be treated for their gunshot wounds before being taken into custody.

While Gross says he never wants to shoot anyone ever again, if he has to defend his family, he’d do it again.

“This is a nice street. I want my son to be able to come out and play. I don’t want to worry about guys breaking into people’s houses,” he said.

Armed neighbor shoots, kills domestic violence suspectShooter cooperating with police

By: Lon Lucas
Posted: Jul 20, 2017 11:03 PM PDT

LAS VEGAS - The Clark County District Attorney will decide if a man will face charges in a late-night shooting death at an apartment complex near the Meadows Mall. Police said it appears the man was trying to protect a woman who was being beaten by her boyfriend.

Metro Police detectives said the shooter was not arrested and was cooperating with investigators.

Police were called to the apartment on Mission Laguna Lane around 10 p.m. Thursday night by a security guard who reported the shooting.

Investigators believe the dead man had been abusing his girlfriend for hours before the shooting. They said the victim had obvious signs of abuse and was bleeding from her face. They also believe the man had kicked down a door inside the couple's apartment earlier Thursday.

Before the shooting, police believe the woman ran from her apartment and found a neighbor she knew in the parking lot. The woman's long-time boyfriend apparently chased her and got into an argument with the neighbor.

"There was a verbal argument and there was some yelling," said Metro homicide investigator, Lt. Dan McGrath. "What I was told by the security guard was he told him to back up. He told him to get back or he would get shot."

Police said that during that confrontation, the neighbor fired one shot, hitting and killing the boyfriend.

Investigators did not immediately release the names of anyone involved. They said the deceased is an African-American man in his 50's. Police said he had a history of domestic violence involving his girlfriend.

Detectives said this could have been prevented.

"If you hear your neighbors yelling and screaming and fighting, please call the police," said McGrath. "That's our job. We'll come out... You may end up saving somebody from getting seriously injured or killed."

Homeowner shoots, kills burglar dressed like woman

by: Liz Artz Updated: Jul 25, 2017 - 10:23 AM

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Police say a homeowner shot and killed a man dressed like a woman after he broke into his home.

It happened in Lithonia near Brownsmill Road just after 2 a.m.

Channel 2’s Liz Artz spoke to DeKalb County Police Lt. Lonzy Robertson about the case Monday.

"The homeowner gave him a warning. The suspect continued to approach him at which time the homeowner fired one shot," Robertson said.

He says the homeowner will not be charged because it's been ruled as self-defense.

Artz spoke to neighbors in the area.

William Jordan believes the homeowner did the right thing. Jordan told Artz he has a house full of females and he doesn't mess around when it comes to their safety.

"I think people should protect themselves and their property," he said.

The burglar died at the scene.

Robertson says they have not been able to identify the suspect but have reached out to the community to find out who the person is.

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) — Police have identified a man who was shot and killed in Oak Island over the weekend.

UPDATE: NC island motel landlord in 911 call: ‘I just shot this dude, he tried to cut me’

According to Chief Greg Jordan, Michael Christopher Auvil, 36, was fatally shot during an “isolated incident” Saturday night. Jordan said all parties involved in the shooting have been identified and he doesn’t believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
The shooting occurred in the area of Keziah Street and Ocean Drive around 11:15 pm. When police arrived at the scene they found that there had been an altercation at the location and Auvil had been shot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jordan said his department is consulting with the District Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges will be filed.

According to witnesses, a man — later identified as Auvil — who used to live in the Driftwood Motel pulled a knife on the motel landlord. Witnesses said when Auvil came closer, the landlord acted in self-defense and shot and killed him.

The incident shocked beach-goers like Elizabeth Finley, who heard the shots last night.

“It was like a thunk thunk. It was maybe two in a row, and we thought maybe the kids had fallen out of bed,” Finley said.

“It’s so quiet and a family friendly and a low-key place where you don’t expect any action or crime,” she said.

Locals were surprised by the news as well.

“Those are the two furthest people that I would think would get in any predicament like that,” Boo Potter said.

“It’s the state of Texas, if you’re going to go into someone’s home, you’re going to get shot,” said Cathy Hanks, a neighbor. “That’s just the way we are. That’s just Texas.”

KHOU – Investigators say a woman near Katy turned the tables on a pair of intruders. She shot and killed one of them before a second man got away.

It happened around 11:30 Monday morning along Fort Bowie Court in the Sundown subdivision.

“This is really a very safe neighborhood,” said neighbor Teresa Roberts.

She and others watched investigators work a scene they never expected in the middle of the day.

A neighbor had a burglar in the home and apparently shot him,” said Roberts.

Detectives say two men actually entered the home uninvited through an open garage door.

They surprised a 60 year-old woman inside.

“Both were armed with pistols,” said HCSO spokesman Thomas Gilliland. “She confronted both suspects and then retrieved a handgun and fired several times at both suspects.”

One man collapsed and died in her front yard in the 20000 block of Fort Bowie Ct in the Sundown subdivision. Deputies found a gun near his body.

“It’s the state of Texas, if you’re going to go into someone’s home, you’re going to get shot,” said Cathy Hanks, a neighbor. “That’s just the way we are. That’s just Texas.”

The other suspect got away by jumping a fence. It’s not clear if he was wounded. Deputies are searching the neighborhood for him. The victim said he appeared to be around 20 years old, was wearing dark clothing and his red underwear was showing.

The woman who fired the shots wasn’t hurt.

She told investigators she didn’t know the men.
