Sam: Fujitsu is a hugh company like IBM. Of course, they have cash. As far as semiconductor investment, Japanese has been under investing for a few years compared to its neighbors. Most of the semi investment in the last three years occurred in Korea and Taiwan, especially the latter.
People think that it is about time that Japanese pick up semi investment in order not to fall behind in technology curve. AMAT and others are hoping Japanese, Taiwanese and European will pick up the suddenly diminished demand at Korea due to financial crisis there. The 12" wafer thing is being seriously contemplated today in Japan and IBM. I also see some hope in Europe.
