There is an explanation. That isn't exactly what she said.

There was an event scheduled at the local museum for the eclipse. She thought it would be something her son would like to see, but mistakenly believed it was just another event about something interesting. She believed she would have to take her son out of school to go, so she contacted the museum to find out if they could reschedule the event on a non-school day. She didn't realize there was a real eclipse happening.

USA Today ran a headline this morning..."How The Eclipse Affects Sports Today"......Huh?
