I think you spend too much energy worrying incessantly about the work life of all Americans over the age of 16. I think we should simply exclude from the labor-force all citizens still in school and all citizens over the age of 65. That's much more sensible. That way you won't keep losing your mind as the Baby Boom generation continues to retire. What's the alternative? How are you going to enforce labor-force participation among 90 year old Americans? Take away their Medicare and Social Security benefits until they get a job? Yes, there's a big government program, called High School, that keeps 16, 17 and 18 year olds out of the labor force during peak working hours. So what? There's a horrible program called college that keeps a big percentage of Americans out of the labor force unto their early 20s - and so what. What's it to you? Yes Social Security and Medicare benefits allow elderly Americans to lay in a nursing home bed and stare at the ceiling. Are you proposing we instead send them to concentration camps? Maybe you can deal with your anxiety by reporting to one of the Ronald Reagan Early-Termination Centers.
