The Big Inch and the Little Inch pipelines send refined products from the Gulf Coast of Texas to Jersey. - en.wikipedia.org

They were built between 1943 and 1944 New York was built during WW-II when Nazi submarines were sinking fuel transport ships in the Gulf of Mexico and the Eastern Seaboard.

Today one of the pipelines was converted to carry natural gas and the Colonial Pipeline was built in 1962 to transport refined fuel products from Louisiana and Texas to the New York harbour. - en.wikipedia.org

This all means the New York area is weirdly dependent upon gasoline production in Texas and Louisiana, but there are other refineries in the Bahamas.
