Completely agree. My best memories of Austin date from the 50s when I was a student at UT. Sleepy little town by comparison with today.

The big differences I encounter each time we visit are the traffic backups on the ring roads. I'm learning to only drive during non rush hours, adapting my NJ/NY driving skills.

When my parents moved to Austin, it was a town of 250,000. The big employers were the University of Texas and State government.

It's grown way too fast, but it's still a young person's city. After living in S. Cal., it's ok with me, too! If I could split lanes in Texas, I'd buy another motorcycle here.

Today, I'm going swimming in Lake Travis. I didn't appreciate it until I moved away. Wonderful swimming in warm water, no lanes or chlorine. Free for anyone over 62. You can't beat it.
