Which takes me to the next step. Why didn't CEOs have to pay more?

As you may know, around half of all publicly traded companies have disappeared since the late 1990s. We used to have well over 6000 US companies to invest in and now it's a little over 3000. Jobs simply disappeared. I accept that. New companies are not being created. I accept that. Fewer companies mean less demand for wages and low wages mean the middle class is crippled by inflation and the economy sits idle for years or decades. I accept that.

Faced with these realities, CEOs gave money to investors. They did not invest in their companies or their workers to stimulate new growth and job creation. I have no idea why we haven't collapsed yet. Social programs most likely keep the economy from collapsing.
