I know it's very fashionable and politically correct today to oppose NAFTA on behalf of the poor American worker. But I wonder how many of these people spoke out against NAFTA at the time.
I was a big advocate of NAFTA at the time. I was fully invested in stocks at the time and NAFTA meant bigger corporate profits, higher stock prices and low inflation. Ok, call me a PIG. I was advertising for free online back then and was the contact and broker for kids in Asia and Europe who wanted to go to college in the USA. I showed them the ropes, how to do it and took care of EVERYTHING for them. All, of course, for a price. Moreover, I didn't like paying 2K for a laptop while Dell American Technical support was making 70K a year. At the time, I thought it was cool that companies could move around and reduce costs by acquiring cheaper labor. I was always a Dove in regard to American Foreign policy, though. No, I never supported wars in support of American profit. At the time, I thought the American worker was getting too much of the pie for taking on no risk.
What I find especially interesting today is that Donald Trump can tell the American blue collar worker exactly what he wants to hear while being, in fact, his biggest enemy. It's amazing the kind of bull shit people will take. And I am speaking of the Gullible Annie American Worker.
