I was happy to hear my daughter phrase it like that. To see her thinking like that: "she said, as mentioned: "he said ,what is this thing light". He spent years thinking about it. One of the unsung hero's of physics was Maxwell. who's research really helped Einstein. Newton, Maxwell and Einstein were such giants. Both of my girls phone once a week and we talk about ideas. I have been doing that with them all their life. By the time they were 14 they could hold a conversation with most adults. And both live storybook lives because of their knowledge. My main bitch with humans is they don't think enough and the result of that is pain and suffering, especially by the children. Children do best in countries that have societies that honor education. People use their I phones day in and out and yet not one in a hundred has the simple curiosity to wonder how they can text someone thousands of miles away and have it get there immediately. Not one person in a thousand understands why the Greeks were so smart, or how history evolved and why. They just live day to day blissfully ignorant. Until they are not living blissfully. And few even know the basic history of the human species from when we settled down about 12,000 years ago and changed from a nomadic animal to the existential modern being we see today. And our very survival is on the line here. We need to educate ourselves and what do we do? We elect the village idiot to run our country who appoints the other village idiot to run our Department of education? Good luck avoiding nuclear war, global warming, world pollution, or successfully negotiating the impending singularity.
