You might be right about the ultimate result, but it was a silly strategic error and I think it accelerated NSCPs problems.

I spoke to a group of MSFT people at a trade show in early 1997 and asked if they'd seen the quote "NSCP is the platform. We'll reduce Windows to a set of poorly debugged device drivers". One guy said he'd had 3 different managers bring it up in meetings, and another said there was a big poster of it in one of the buildings...where the OS/2 poster used to be.
