Projectavision Showcases Hot Java Views Environment on Digital Home Theater at CES '98 LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1998--As the popularity of Web-based entertainment continues to grow, Projectavision(R) Inc. (NASDAQ: PJTV - news) is leading the initiative by showcasing the Hot Java(TM) Views(TM) user environment on the company's Digital Home Theater(TM) at the 1998 Consumer Electronics Show. This innovative technology is being showcased on Projectavision Digital Home Theater(TM) units operating with Sun's Java Engine(TM)1 board at Projectavision's booth No. 4203, and also at Sun's Java(TM) Technology Town in the Las Vegas Convention Center. According to Projectavision, the technology being showcased will allow users to bring the benefits of the Java environment to home entertainment in the form of high-quality digital display. ''We believe this exciting application for the Hot Java(TM) Views(TM) environment can enhance the overall Digital Home Theater experience for consumers,'' said Martin Holleran, chief executive officer of Projectavision. ''The challenge has always been to make surfing the Web and playing on-line games a shared family experience in the living room or den. Our goal is to deliver a complete visual and audio entertainment experience whether the consumer is engaged in a favorite Web site or watching the Super Bowl.'' Sun Microsystems offers the Java Engine(TM)1 as a board-level product or a design kit. According to Sun, Java Engine 1 is a network computer with no moving parts, no noise, high reliability, color graphics and network interface. It features the highly integrated microSPARC(TM) 11ep, color graphics, stereo audio, and high performance networking. Software packaged with the product includes an optimized version of Java OS(TM), and the Hot Java(TM) Views(TM) user environment which includes the Hot Java(TM) Web browser. Unlike Windows(R), the Java OS does not require large amounts of storage space, and can run from memory in the Java Engine1. Digital Home Theater(TM) is the first 100% digital projection unit that combines a large front or rear screen VGA of SVGA computer display, a 60-inch rear projection television and removable front projector that projects beyond 240'' diagonally. It is the first consumer product to utilize Texas Instruments' 2-chip Digital Light Processing(TM) (DLP(TM)) technology, that produces a crisp, flicker-free image with no distortion or loss of brightness when viewed from almost any angle. DLP(TM) employs an advanced microchip that allows both video and computer-generated images to be reflected with their full color spectrum intact. Projectavision's Digital Home Theater(TM), which retails for $10,000 and SOLO-1(TM), the front projector unit which is available separately for $8,000, are sold at leading electronics retailers.
