DALLAS, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Dallas Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: DS - news) today
reported record net sales of $368.2 million for the year ended December 28, 1997, up 28% compared
to $288.4 million for the same period last year. Net income for 1997 was also a record $64.6 million
($2.19 per share), up 68% (60% per share) compared to $38.4 million ($1.37 per share) recorded for
1996.

Net sales for the fourth quarter of 1997 were a record $95.4 million, up 19% compared to $80.4
million for the fourth quarter of 1996. Net income for the fourth quarter of 1997 was also a record
$17.9 million ($.60 per share), up 72% (62% per share) compared to $10.4 million ($0.37 per share)
for the fourth quarter of 1996.

''We are pleased to report that strong growth by our Automatic Information, Communications,
System Extension and Commercial Timekeeping product areas produced record quarterly and
annual sales for the Company,'' said Vin Prothro, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. During
1997, Dallas Semiconductor marketed several of its Automatic Information products under the
iButton brand.
