Twister:

My cyber friend and fellow SUNW share holder, Happy New Year and may the new year be filled with joy, happiness and lots and lots of money for you!!

You state:
> I don't buy the Mcnealy (Ellison strangely quiet) view of the
> world.... Microsoft delivering simplicity in 98, why would a business
> go to an NC-not compatible? Hmm?

Make sure to watch Oracle's 60 second add(s) during Superbowl! I think you will get a clearer view of the concept! 1998 (and especially in the second half) will be the year to watch how the NC concept is going to grow to capture even your skpetical attention!! Keep on to your SUNW shares and bring up all your concerns regarding the stock (and the company) in the format you have done so for the past two years. You will have a huge smile on your face this time next year!

Best Regards,

Addi Jamshidi

Microsoft recently discovered a device called the terminal which they will attempt to use as a shield against the onslaught of distributed computing architectures. So rather than cloud the issue with a discussion about what precisely defines a network computer, we should focus on what's important: secure, reliable and distributed object technology and the software infrastructure necessary to support it. The banks, retailers, publishers, broadcasters and other industries with a critical dependency on software will adopt Java-based solutions. They will do so not only because it is superior to Microsoft's incoherent trash collection, but also because it's an accepted standard that doesn't tie them to the mast of one vendor. That's a refreshing thought for companies who see Microsoft trying to buy their way into those companies' market segments. I don't expect you to grasp this based on your commets, but repeated exposure may eventually trigger comprehension provided that's reinforced by actual industry events. Those events will soon begin to unfold.

That means that as investors,

When I do that, I see NT improving, HP and DEC winning with
64bit and better I64 story, and a big fat failure for NC.
Now, tell me what lies ahead, not what's in front of our face
today.

Good points. As a Sun investor I can only hope that Sun is not
neglecting and payin attention to its core markets and
traditional competetion represented by HP, DEC. What encourages
me is that they did lag HP, DEC in quality, speed before and
caught up. But then they did not have (what the HP spokespeople
call) the "coffee distraction" :-) I hope attention is being
paid to the bread-and-butter markets while new opportunities are
investigated.

NC concept is good, but seems to have been over-hyped and I hope
they quiet down and get the damn thing perfect before they hype
it more. There is some necessary hype-to-fact ratio that invariably
accompanies marketing of new products/ideas but my patience on this
one is running thin too. But I remain bullish on Sun. They can
compete and have enough market share to make moeny. As far as
"Sun vs Microsoft" is concerned, the market has different
expectations on them (PE of ~20 vs ~50) so as an investor it
is also good to consider where things will go from here and how
well these expectations will be met.

A late response but Hope you continue to present your "against
the grain" views here that make us think and hope there is
less mudslinging matches on this thread in the new year.
