Because of this. This is just one section of sky pictured with Hubble's deep field view (long exposure). Every one of those stars probably has planets, some of them have life, some few of those have intelligent life. Those few could number in the millions. And those are just the one's we can SEE.

So, we aren't special. We aren't God's chosen. We're intelligent animals on a rocky planet with a lot of water. Get over it. Absorb the lesson of relativity.
