Empathy moves people to donate millions of dollars to a cause that touches them; it also moves people to put their life on the line on the battle field to overcome the oppression and injustice. A very close friend of mine moved to El Salvador temporarily to fight with the Sandinistas to successfully overcome US sponsored oppression under Reagan. Empathy is not an abstract emotion; it can be a very powerful moving force once you experience it.
