What is this "deeper understanding" you speak of outside of personally experiencing hell, torture, abuse, racism? All it does is hit home and make your life miserable. No person who has experienced racism, torture, sexual abuse would want anyone else to experience such things. The idea itself is repulsive enough. And no, to heal someone from sexual abuse and torture, it is not necessary to have personally experienced these things yourself. Pending on how severe the torture and abuse was, the cure is nothing more than reinstilling trust, love, care, understanding and friendship into the abused person through time.
