They are cute. But they sit at the dam and eat all the fish going up to spawn.
That picture was at teh fish pier, about 20 were feasting on the scraps washing off of the decks of the incoming boats. Several hundred birds also.

And they are smart as heck. Every technique to stop them from gorging on Salmon has met failure after failure.
