Any two-party system will fail when one party stops holding their elected officials accountable. When Reagan and Bush promised the balance the budget and claimed to be fiscal conservatives republican voters needed to walk away from them. But they didn't. They embraced failure so that now failure and lies are acceptable to all of them.

When republicans investigated Hillary, a person they knew would run against them for the highest office in the land every republican should have demanded they stop. But every republican seemed to enjoy it. What your side accepts as being normal would have been considered an affront to democracy by any other generation.
