He never repudiated it totally. He just said the Accords were unfair and said he looked forward to re-entering when changes were made. It seems clear that's what he intends to do eventually. Here's what he said:"The United States will withdraw from the Paris climate accord," Trump said June 1, 2017, "but begin negotiations to re-enter either the Paris accord or an entirely new transaction on terms that are fair to the United States." A month and a half after the announced withdrawal, he discussed it with France's Macron and said he would try to find a way to re-enter in a few months. Well, it's been a couple more months and here we are. ------------------- Trump May Re-Enter Climate Change Accord, Says Macron BY REUTERS ON 16/07/2017 • LEAVE A COMMENT Paris : French President Emmanuel Macron said he was hopeful that US President Donald Trump would reverse his decision to pull the US out of the Paris climate accord, according to weekly newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche on Sunday.“(Trump) told me that he would try to find a solution in the coming months,” Macron told the paper, referring to meetings the two leaders had this week in Paris.[ Well, here we are a few months later. ] “We spoke in detail about the things that could make him come back to the Paris accord,” he added. Trump has said the Paris accord is soft on leading polluters like China and India, putting US industry at risk.[ Notice that 3 days ago China announced they intended to phase out internal combustion engines in coming decades. Never mind this won't happen. This statement is a movement on China's part that could be used to claim the Accords are now fairer to the US. And coincidentally just after this was announced, the Trump adm starts making noise about not leaving the Accords. ] Trump on Friday appeared to hold the door open to a change of position on the 2015 Paris climate change agreement which he pulled the US out of earlier this year. The accord, reached by nearly 200 countries in 2015, was meant to limit global warming to two degrees or less by 2100, mainly through pledges to cut carbon dioxide and other emissions from the burning of fossil fuels. Trump has repeatedly said he would be open to a better deal for the US.thewire.in
