Hi Diane! I know where those socks are. They are hiding in your clothes, and some day soon you will be at a fancy social gathering, and one of them will mysteriously crawl out of your pant leg to embarass you. Should you wear a skirt, you have a worse problem, as one will creep down and peek out below the hem, always the back hem where you can't see it, but other people do. Be very careful...

Thank you for your recognition of my sacrificial act. The boys thought I was just trying to eat their pies. So often maternal acts of martyrdom go unnoticed and unappreciated. However, I must tell you that we went to CW's swim meet and he swam great-came in first in the 100 breast and the 500 free. I feel sure it was because of the pie. I've convinced him of this and he took the last piece today in his swim bag to eat before his meet tonight. It may have been the paint that did it, though, and we'll never be able to duplicate the recipe or the salutary effects. I'm sure that the only reason you didn't realize that TV dinners need to be taken out of the box before baking is because you, being a perfect homemaker, cook from scratch and never use frozen or prepared meals. I'm going to the library today to look for the book you recommended. Erma Bombeck wrote a famous column about the sock mystery but I forget what she said. I want to announce that she and I share the same birthday, which has to mean something, don't you think?
