That was to push Congress to pass additional funding, and to work on greater drug enforcement, as well.

In the meantime, funding is ongoing.

In 2016, under President Barack Obama, Congress approved $1 billion in funding over two years to help states fight the epidemic, but deaths from drug overdoses are continuing to rise.
