PS: for the few who have not shorted an equity yet. You don't pay any commision when you short, even when you talk to the broker (at least at Fidelity): You only pay a comission when you cover. That was an amazing news to me. I am still very new at investing.

I Know for fact that this is a broker by broker situation.

I change a commission for every trade, long or short. But the commission depends on who's idea and how well it worked.
If I give a bad idea, I won't charge much. On good gain, I think I should get paid. If they are your ideas, I negotiate.
