Well, it isn't really that important, but I am pretty sure I am right about this. Here is a brief excerpt from a 2011 piece by Savolainen, once the best blogger on all things Sandisk after they acquired mSystems:

Personally, I am partial to the possibility that somewhere along the line, SanDisk and Toshiba had a meeting of the minds and worked out an unannounced deal whereby SanDisk bought this capacity back.

Clearly it isn't definitive. You can go to the original for context if you wish. I am not going to bother looking for something definitive. Perhaps I got the idea itself from Savo (maybe if he is reading this, he can confirm or deny it).

At any rate, I believe it and I believe that it is what Toshiba wants as well. Something that has been confirmed several times in news accounts (one of the few things that I actually give credence to in those accounts precisely because it is so unusual).
