DIGITAL EQPMT. CORP. said it expects the Federal Trade
Commission to approve its $700 million settlement with INTEL. The
Los Angeles Times, quoting people close to an FTC probe, said FTC
staff were building a case against approval of the deal on the
grounds that it would limit competition to Intel's market-leading
Pentium chip. Digital said it had received a request from the FTC,
as was expected, in December for additional information about the
deal. (Reuters 04:47 PM ET 01/08/98) For the full text story, see

* INTEL said that it remains optimistic that the Federal Trade
Commission will approve its pending patent litigation settlement
with DIGITAL EQPMT. CORP., which was announced in late October. On
Thursday, the Los Angeles Times reported that the FTC has found
serious antitrust problems in the pending settlement, which
includes buying Digital's chip making operations in Hudson, Mass.
and other plants for $700 million. (Reuters 04:50 PM ET 01/08/98)

Gene, there is only one small flaw in your assessment. I heard from good sources that in Europe, for example, businesses go for a lot of no-names now and just go for cheap, cheap, therefore more AMD products are being sold. So " Brand Recognition" may not be the right name for AMD.
Thanks for the CPQ reply.
