Scientific-Atlanta [SFA] doesn't need to sell equity stakes as its top competitor, NextLevel [NLV], has done with Sony [SNE] and TCI [TCOMA] for a 15% stake of the company. "We don't need any cash. We don't have any debt," S-A pres/CEO Jim McDonald tells CableFAX. S-A's goal over the next month is to install more than 100K digital set-tops in about 50 systems for commercial deployment, he says. The Explorer 2000 advanced set-top will be rolled out to at least "nine different major MSOs," including Time Warner [TWX], he says.
