Allow me to address your final statement. A republican president, Treasury Sec. and Fed. Chairman tell Congress the US will cease to exist if emergency legislation is not passed.

Senators McCain and Obama draft a joint letter to the Senate asking for their support. The repubican Speaker gives a speech asking republicans to put the country before the party. The first bill (TARP) fails. The stock market dropped almost 800 pts. in one day.

A majority of Democrats in both Houses of Congress vote to give Bush the tools he asks for. A majority of republicans in both Houses vote against the legislation.
