Md. Teachers Take Firearms Training In Response To Uptick In School Shootings

September 20, 2017 5:19 PM By Pat Warren
BALTIMORE (WJZ)– Some Maryland teachers who believe the answer to school shootings is to arm themselves, are taking a firearms training course in Ohio.

The Maryland teachers are among 1,000 educators from 12 states in a three-day firearms course in rural Ohio, called “Faster Saves Lives.”

Instructors test participants on taking down a gunman and treating wounds.

Maryland prohibits any person from carrying or possessing a firearm on public school property, but some Maryland teachers took the training anyway.

One elementary school principal says the course is preparation for protecting his students.

“When I walk down the halls I actually think about where I would go, how would I react,” he said.

Most teachers asked not to be identified. One middle school teacher at the course keeps her 9 millimeter handgun on her during class.

A Tale Of Two Mothers

Posted at 12:00 pm on September 20, 2017 by Tom Knighton

Yes, I’m a firm believer in everyone being armed and trained to use a firearm against another human being when warranted. I’ve had people try to talk me out of this time and time again, for some reason, yet I don’t budge on this. Why?

The Loadout Room actually has a post today that illustrates exactly why I don’t. Two different mothers and different times, one had options the other didn’t.

Throughout the video captured on the home nanny cam, the violent burglar can be seen walking in and out of the living room. Each time he returns, he resumes attacking the mother. The woman does nothing in her defense, not even after being kicked in the face and thrown down a set of stairs. Miraculously, she survived the beatings with only a concussion and needing several stitches in her mouth and the large intruder made off with some of her jewelry, including her wedding ring.

In her explanation of the events, the woman (who chose to remain anonymous for the interview) felt her best chance of surviving was to do nothing, for fear that if she started crying and screaming that it would upset her daughter and draw the attacker’s attention to her.

A Texan mother, attacked by a carjacker after purchasing groceries with her two young sons (two and five years old), had a different response.

In Dorothy Baker’s situation, a man who had hidden in the back seat of her unlocked vehicle climbed up behind the driver’s seat, placed a knife to the woman’s throat, and told her to follow his instructions if she didn’t want any harm to come to her sons. He told her to drive up to an ATM to withdraw money. Baker refused, and he responded with violence, cutting her across her chest. She struggled with him, grabbing the knife away, and he bit her hand. She intentionally drove into a telephone pole, in the hopes of sending her assailant through the windshield (as he was the only vehicle occupant without a seatbelt) and away from her children. She also hit him in the face and told him to get out of the car.

Both mothers had the goal of protecting their children, and each responded according to their own natural instincts. In this case, the New Jersey mom froze, and the Texan mom fought. After the incident, the family in the invaded New Jersey home had a security system installed. However, getting self defense training and [home or concealed] carry can also be significant weapons in one’s self defense arsenal, and could have helped in the case of home invasion in NJ as well as the carjacking in TX.

Exactly.

Fighting is always, in my opinion, preferable to simply withstanding being bludgeoned. The most efficient means of fighting back, however, is a firearm. It negates any size or strength advantage. In many times, the mere presence of a firearm is enough to end a crime.

No, having a gun doesn’t guarantee victory. Nothing does.

What it does do, however, is give you options. It gives you alternatives to being a victim and being hurt or worse, alternatives you don’t get without a gun.

Whenever you see a politician talk about how people don’t need guns, that the police will protect them, remember that they are telling you to be a victim. They want you to rely on the mercy of the merciless.

Yes, every police officer I’ve ever met has been willing to put their lives on the line to protect people, but like the old cliche says, when seconds count, the police are just minutes away.

Man Shot And Killed After Firing On Ex-Girlfriend And Her New Man

Posted at 10:30 am on September 23, 2017 by Tom Knighton

An Alabama man didn’t appreciate the fact that his ex-girlfriend had moved on to a new guy, so he decided to let her know about it. Why, I have no idea. Has any woman in history had an ex- show up to complain about the new boyfriend and have the woman say, “Holy crap, you’re right! I must run away with you right this second!” at any point in history?

I didn’t think so.

This time wasn’t any different in that regard. Then again, pulling out a gun and firing was probably not a good way to win her back either. Of course, that doesn’t really matter anymore.

According to reports from the Decatur Daily, Carter showed up at the home around 4 a.m. to confront the woman about her new boyfriend. Athens Chief of Police Floyd Johnson did not say who lived at the home, but confirmed that it did not belong to either the female or Carter.

After Carter arrived, Johnson said an argument then ensued and turned to violent proportions when Carter opened fire on his ex and her new beau, who were on the porch at the time. The new boyfriend went inside the house, grabbed a pistol, and returned fire, striking Carter multiple times.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Carter lying on the street in front of the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, while her new boyfriend had been shot in the arm. Both were transported via ambulance to a local hospital, where they received medical treatment and were later released.

Johnson told reporters he does not expect charges to be filed against the woman’s current boyfriend, as it appears he acted in self-defense.

The new boyfriend is fortunate that he was able to retrieve his firearm and be able to defend himself without Carter taking advantage of the time to kill the ex-girlfriend.

Yet again, a good guy with a gun saved the day.

However, this ties in a bit with the left’s latest bugaboo regarding guns, namely domestic violence. There seems to be a concerted push to use men like Carter as evidence that something needs to be done.

Yet it looks like something was done. Carter will never hurt another living soul. Ever.

If these people were serious about stopping domestic violence, they wouldn’t be trying to disarm people at all. Instead, they’d arm them.

Women, as a general rule, tend to be physically weaker than men. Yet they’re plenty strong enough to pull the trigger if their lives are threatened. They can be put down like Carter was, or countless other miscreant males who thought a woman was easy prey.

The thing is, without a firearm, the majority of women will always good targets for violent men, so why do these activists try to disarm everyone? The answer is simple. They don’t care about the victims. They don’t care about Carter’s ex-girlfriend. No, they only care about virtue signaling that they hate guns.

Everything else is secondary…like how guns actually save lives.

Gas station worker tired of being sitting duck, shoots robbery suspect

Wednesday, September 20th 2017, 7:01 pm CDTWednesday, September 20th 2017, 7:01 pm CDT

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KOAT/CNN) - A gas station worker has been suspended for two weeks for shooting a robbery suspect. But in an interview, the worker said she's sticking to her guns.

“I grabbed my gun from my pocket, I cocked it, and I shot,” said Jennifer Wertz, who shot the robbery suspect. "I'm sick and tired of being a sitting duck."

In front of the Circle K near Eubank and Candelaria, Wertz said on Tuesday that she didn't hesitate to shoot a man who ran into the store on Monday. "He like stepped into the door and pointed the gun at me. I reacted,” she said. Police say she hit 23-year-old Ferron Mendez in the chest. He's expected to live.

Wertz says she had the gun at work clearly visible on her hip because it's become a dangerous place to be. "Robberies have been going on like this for the past few weeks. They have done nothing to protect me. And I felt the need to protect myself,” Wertz said.

She says Circle K suspended her for two weeks for shooting the suspect. She's quitting and now looking for a new job. Wertz doesn't like company policy in these types of situations.

"We are not to chase. We are not to provoke. We are not to do anything. We just stand there and give them what they want and they leave,” Wertz said.

But when Mendez rushed into the store, Wertz was by the door. She wonders what would have happened if she wasn't armed, and the suspect got upset she couldn't quickly hand over cash.

"What if he would have come in and just shot me just because I wasn't behind the counter?" Wertz asked.

It was over in 30 seconds. Wertz says she thought of her three kids and her disabled mother whom she cares for. Circle K management declined to comment on the incident.
