I was seeing lows in Denver of 44 yesterday and temperatures in the 50's in Minnesota..... there should be a cold front hitting you today or tomorrow.... me thinks.. I have been viewing some of the live bands at the New Smyna Beach Jazz festival in Florida..... temperature is in low 80's on the beach side. I was at the pier at the end of Flagler avenue last night..... Huge massive surf.... 8 to 11 foot waves, the water was coming all the way up the beach to within 40 feet of the elevated and covered tiki pier and restaurant bars, such as the breakers. I ended up going to Savannah Georgia during Hurricane Irma. I was there from September 9th until Weds the 16th. The governor had issued a manadatory evacuation a on Weds the 7th for all of the Georgia coastal communities.... and then rescinded it when the Irma did not go up the eastern Seaboard, but instead went over to the west coast of Florida. It made for a very interesting experience in Savannah, as the crowds were basically none existant. Restaurants and bars were open, yet the crowds were so small that you could drive around and park right out in front of where you wanted to go right on the street. Savannah is a truly amazing town of the true old south, founded in 1733 by the James Olgethorpe. He laid out the historic area of the city where there are small parks every 2 blocks so there are 12 parks going along side bay street and then parks every 2 blocks heading perpendicular to bay street , with several larger parks, such as the one dedicated to Oglethorpe ........ several people commented they felt it was very European in feel. think it's as impressive as Charleston, South Carolina and the French Quarter in New Orleans.... then there is a much, much larger park similar to a small central park about 3/4 of a mile from the river. Georgia heavily incentivizes movie shooting and production and so there have been many movies shot in Savannah, Atlanta and other parts of the state. I had seen "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" for the second time about 3 months ago and kept thinking of it while I was there. btw.... speaking of gardening... one of the very best ways to improve the soil in an area where you want to have a garden is too gather and dump huge quantities of leaves in the area as they come down in the fall. put like 6 to 12 inches of the leaves that have fallen off of trees in the fall... They decompose and the worms really love them, you will find that you will have so many worms in an area where you have put 6 or 12 inches of leaves in the fall, the following spring. And the worms aerate the soil and they vastly increase the fertility of the soil. the worms eat the leaves and leave behind much improved and aerated soil. John
