Yes, I think Carter was a far better economic president. Forbes reviewed our post WW2 presidents and rated them on the economy. Carter came in below Reagan but only because Reagan created massive debt and a recession killed inflation - not Reagan's policies.

A better question might be why do Democrats get fair better than republicans? In that same article, they said our top three economic presidents were all Clinton, LBJ and Kennedy in that order. The three worst were republicans.

The article is highly flawed since it gives Reagan credit for reducing deficits, when in the real world the debt soared under his presidency....but it's a good place to start.
