(Nasdaq: HOTD - news) today announced the appointment of Jon C. Pugh as vice president of development as of February 2, 1998. Pugh joins Hotel Discovery from the Cuningham Group, an architecture and design firm where he specialized in serving clients in the entertainment industry, including Rainforest Cafe and Billboard Live. His most recent assignment at Cuningham was project manager for Hotel Discovery. Previously, he was managing director of the leisure entertainment division for Ellerbe Becket, Inc., an internationally known architecture and engineering firm based in Minneapolis. Before joining Ellerbe Becket, Pugh was vice president of planning and development for MCA Recreation Services, Inc., the division of MCA that operates the Universal Studios entertainment parks in Hollywood and Florida. He also served as director of design and planning for Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park, Calif., and worked for Walt Disney Imagineering during the first years of Walt Disney World. Stephen D. King, chairman and chief executive officer of Hotel Discovery, said, ''Jon will spearhead our site selection process, as well as direct the creation of new Hotel Discovery restaurants on those sites. His background, experience and great connections in the industry will be tremendous assets as we seek the best new locations for expanding our imaginative concept.''
