Actually, better to halt the stock before the open, issue a comment about the rumours (I assume false), then re-open mid-morning.

"I wonder what the legal implications would be if the rumour is true and they came out and said it isn't?"

Legal ramifications such as this might be exactly why NN won't issue a statement...imagine the lawsuits should your scenario be true...

time to buy:-)

Having read all the postings about the rumors I decided to call NN investor relations.

From my discussions with them and in response to "Meawhile, rumors circulating that the company has been guiding analysts to slash their forecasts for the curent fiscal year ending April"...(Globe & Mail Jan 9, 1998) I discovered that they had spoken to just one analyst at TD who has been quoted in a previous posting today. Basically the analysts' forecasts were much rosier (8-10% growth) than the actual scenario predicted by the company (4-5%). This is for the older type of technology namely, TDM.

Regarding the Asian factor about 18% of their sales are based in that region but only a 5% exposure to the Tiger countries which currently are the ones in financial trouble.

About the Skystone/Cisco rumour the message was that NN did use Skystone, for some designs, prior to that company being taken over by. Skystone, a company of about 50-60 employees, I am advised does not currently have any products.

NN also informed me that they are on target to unveil their position on UB as promised earlier. I believe they had earlier said they would by the end of the next quarter.

The general tone of our discussion left me with the impression that there are a lot of rumors being circulated which are not supported by facts and we all know what the intention of spreading such rumors is.

It gets very difficult for individual invesrtors like us participate in the market especially for those companies which are held by momemtum investors since the volatility is often unbearable. However, I am going to stick it out. The growth potential for ATM is massive and NN is a leader in this technology. It has good partners and well positioned internationally. I was also reminded by NN that 4 affiliates have won recognition by Data Communication for their products. ( one of these is listed below).

A hello to all participants of this thread. I have been lurking for a while since I am a NN shareholder. I have got excellent info. via this thread and I thank all contributors.
