(Off Topic) Dwight, some details are out on the Asia bank deals

For Korea they are talking about the government floating 25 billion in loans on the international market---either directly or syndicated.

The proceeds would be used to provide liquidity to the Korean financial system and to pay back foriegn banks. The mechanism will be that foreign banks can swao their bad loans in Korea for Korean government loans.

The banks are currently fighting over who gets to palce the laons and how much money they get to make. Everyone gets bailed out. The Japanese banks are rebelling since they think they could get better rates by keeping their arrangements with Korean banks but having the loans guaranteed by the Korean governemnt.

Its a massive bailout. You have to wonder how the IMF can handle this without somebody starting to print money.

As to Indonesia, well since when does the tiger change its stripes! Suharto's son closed his bank one day and reopened it the next. They are arming the military. So much for supporting and arming dictators.
