If you clicked on the document file to open it then Windows used the default application (Word) to open the document. You can change the default application for documents from Word to the Libre Office program (Writer) by going to Settings / Default apps. Then click on "Choose default apps by file type" (you might have to scroll down to see this option. Then find the document file type (.doc and/or .docx). The default app will probably be Microsoft Office Word. Click on "Microsoft Office Word" and you can change the default app to Libre Writer (provided it has been installed).

Then, the next time you click on a document file it will use Libre Writer to open the document.

I haven't used Libre Writer in a while; but I believe that if you open Libre Writer first, then you can use the File drop down menu to open a specific document without making Libre Writer the default program.

I don't have that issue with my Win 10 and Libre Office. I just downloaded the newest LO to see if it had that issue and it works just fine on old and new Word docs.

I would just ignore the Office 365 and see what happens.

Blessings,
