*AV* -- Now with the previous post off my chest, the following is a reprint of an interesting article. See how many companies we talk about are on that list. More importantly (especially you Kevin) look at which company occupies the top slot. Crazy World, ain't it.
The top 25 and some notables in the top 100 are listed for your viewing pleasure and a link to the article is provided at the end to check out where your favorite stock might lay (or Lie since a lot of that is going on these days according to the lawsuits filed).
Let's not even talk about shareholder lawsuits. Between those and the YR2000 dollars that may have to be spent, the only winners are going to be the lawyers and the YR2000 Cobol programmers.

America's Fastest-Growing High Technology Companies Are Announced by Deloitte & Touche LLP
Integrated Process Equipment Corp. and Cascade Communications Corp. Lead 500 Companies Identified Across the United States by National Study
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1998-- Deloitte & Touche LLP announces the fastest-growing technology companies in the United States for 1997 as determined by its national Technology Fast 500 awards (the full list of 500 companies follows this release).
Phoenix-based Integrated Process Equipment Corp. (Nasdaq:IPEC - news; IPEC) won first place with an astounding revenue growth increase of 71,136 percent, while second-place winner Cascade Communications Corp. (Ascend) of Westford, Mass., also experienced hypergrowth with a 41,686 percent five-year growth rate increase. Growth rates ranged from 71,136 to 485 percent, with the average growth rate at 2,495 percent.
Roger McDaniel, president and chief executive officer of first-place winner IPEC commented on his company's phenomenal growth by saying, ''There was an early recognition of the need for machines to perform wafer planarization to enable the production of faster, more complex semiconductor devices. With a lot of hard work and close customer relations, IPEC has been able to lead the market in each of these.''
Second-place award winner Cascade Communications Corp. (Ascend) was also very proud of its success and recognition in 1997. ''We're helping to create a world where every computer has a simple and direct access to every other computer -- a world where data tone is as easy to access as dial tone,'' said Dan Smith, chief executive officer for Cascade.
The list of winning companies shows that Northern California once again leads the country as a high technology hub, serving as a base for 16 percent of the Fast 500 companies. Massachusetts closely follows Northern California with 12 percent, followed by Southern California with 10 percent, and Virginia with 9 percent. The list also shows that technology companies are spreading beyond their usual locations.
''We are seeing new technology clusters emerging in states all across the country, states not traditionally known for having high technology industries. For instance, Missouri and Kansas are beginning to develop a technology core,'' said Mark Evans, national managing director for Deloitte & Touche's High Technology Group.
Software companies dominate the Technology Fast 500, totaling 24 percent of the entire list. Software companies are experiencing especially strong growth in part due to the Internet boom and current demand for Internet-related products. These companies are taking advantage of rapidly growing market demand by producing Web- and intranet-specific products, such as site-authoring and maintenance tools, electronic commerce software, webcasting services and various Web and intranet utility products.
A CEO survey was conducted as part of the Technology Fast 500 awards. Among the respondents, Deloitte & Touche found that 68 percent of Fast 500 CEOs who founded the company are still at the helm. Eighty-nine percent stated that high-quality employees were the number one factor contributing to their success, while 88 percent agreed that their biggest current challenge was finding, hiring, and retaining qualified technical employees.
The Technology Fast 500 is a unique awards program that exclusively recognizes fast-growing technology companies. The companies are ranked by percentage growth in revenue over a five-year period. To qualify for the Fast 500 recognition, companies must have been in business for five years, with 1992 revenues of at least $50,000, and must be a U.S. company developing and/or providing technology products or services.
Deloitte & Touche LLP is one of the nation's leading professional services firms, providing accounting and auditing, tax, and management consulting services through 23,000 professionals in more that 100 U.S. cities. Deloitte & Touche LLP is part of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, a global leader in professional services with more than 72,000 people in 128 countries.
