I think the author misses the point of the antiwar movement in the Vietnam era. There was the Weather Underground movement and SDS, which I was a member of. Weather Underground was violent, while SDS was not. In principle, both groups agreed that the Pure Capitalist system was oppressive and no good. So, you ask, what happened? We got married, had kids, and made a lot of money. Did we sell out? No, but yes, we became selfish and abandoned the political cause to enjoy our lives.
Sure, we did not want to serve in Vietnam and drop dead for Exon and Texaco. But we were not Hawks.
